Briefcase Plus – folder Sync utility

http://www.rekenwonder.com/brfcplus.htm

Briefcase Plus - is a utility for backing up and synchronizing collections of files on two different computers, just like the Windows Briefcase.
But in comparison to the Windows Briefcase, Briefcase Plus has the following advantages:

  • only modified files are ported to the briefcase. The briefcase retains the last time it was updated, and loads only files that have been changed since that time.
  • the briefcase contents are compressed. This lets you take 100% to 500% more data on a briefcase.
  • the files you work on will always be on the local hard disk (and not on a floppy disk), and will only be copied to the briefcase when you load the briefcase. So accessing these files will be much faster.

SWF2XMAL Flash files to XAML

http://www.mikeswanson.com/swf2xaml/

In my spare time, I've been working on a tool that converts Adobe/Macromedia Flash (.SWF) files to XAML. Unlike my Adobe Illustrator to XAML export plug-in that was implemented in native code, this tool is a fully managed code application (managed code rocks!). The current version of the tool allows you to directly open a SWF file and browse through its frames one by one. When you've found a frame that you like, you can either export a XAML file or copy the XAML to the clipboard for easy pasting into your tool of choice. The conversion isn't perfect, and there are many areas for improvement. For common cases, however, it should do the trick.

WMI Asset Logger – Network

http://johnjthomas.net/

WMI Asset Logger is a multifaceted utility that has the ability to return a great deal of information about windows based computer systems on your network, all from the convenience of your Windows XP workstation. WMI Asset Logger is also much more than that too, it is an administrator’s friend. Once you have scanned your network the true power of WMI Asset Logger comes out. Using the right-click speed menu enables you to quickly perform many tasks. Simply right-click on the desired host and choose Remote Control (initiate RDP Session), Remote Management Console, Install Software, View/Browse/Delete Shares, View/Start/Stop Processes on remote systems, and more. If you have administrative rights to a XP workstation, but the firewall is preventing you from getting results, simply right-click on the system and disable the XP firewall. Wait one minute, and rescan the system. (Don’t forget to re-enable that firewall!)

Tired of having client/server based tools that blue-screen remote hosts? Or tired of dealing with messy Logon scripts to gather important information? WMI Asset Logger does not require any client-side installations and is a stand alone application. WMI Asset Logger uses all the tools that already exist on your XP Workstation to perform its duties. These utilities are native to windows and are much more stable than any add-on could hope to be. WMI Asset Logger also monitors its own progress too, if a client system hangs up WMI Asset Logger and you have to terminate it, it will automatically blacklist the computer system that was being scanning when it was terminated.

Just need a down dirty quick inventory of NetBIOS -> IP -> MAC -> FQDN relationships? Not a problem, simply perform an IP Inventory using WMI Asset Logger. WMI Asset logger will blaze through a list of 2000 computer with impressive speeds, and will even return the IP Address of systems that are currently off-line, allowing you to determine if a system’s account may need to be deleted. (No IP information typically means the PC hasn’t been seen in the duration of a DHCP lease cycle).

You can enumerate a list of hosts to scan using the master browser list, or through the use of ADSI (Active Directory Server Interface). WMI Asset logger can also import text files as well as directly import DSQUERY COMPUTER text dumps too. And as a last resort an IP Ping Sweeper that will ping every IP Address that exists between any two addresses. WMI Asset Logger has the ability to save scans to Tab delimited text files, Straight to Microsoft Excel, or directly to your default printer. The TAB Delimited text files can be imported into almost any spreadsheet or database application like Microsoft Excel , Microsoft Access, or FoxPro Databases.

JeffJr is a general purpose multimedia queueing too

http://jeffjr.sourceforge.net/

JeffJr is a general purpose multimedia queueing tool that allows real-time triggering and mixing of multiple audio and video clips. It is aimed at presentations and live stage shows that involve complex multimedia manipulation: starting/stopping audio/video clips at specific points in the script, etc.

Instead of having a separate DVD player, a CD player and a paper cuesheet listing that requires a backstage technician to seek-start-stop the tracks (in addition to normal stage work such as controlling lighting and adjusting the sound at the mixing desk), JeffJr concentrates all these functions into a single program running from a computer.

With JeffJr, you can:

    * Insert any number of MP3, WAV or MIDI audio clips, MPEG, DivX or AVI video clips and JPEG, BMP, GIF and TIFF images into the clip library and set the default playback volume and other options for each of these files.
    * Trigger the playback of complex combinations of these clips by creating custom events. You can start/stop multiple video and audio clips at the same time and control them independently; fade-in/fade-out, automatically pause or loop a clip at specified cue markers, etc.
    * Edit your own web files and control the events via an easy-to-use web browser interface where events can be associated to clickable hyperlinks. Thus, the paper cuesheet and stage script become an electronic cuesheet that can be annotated and scrolled; events are started as easily as sufring the web.

On any computer with dual-screen capability, the control windows can be shown separately from the video display, thus allowing you complete control over multimedia playback without being restricted to mouse pointers or buttons appearing on the projection screen.

Wordpress Plugin: Filosofo Home-Page Control

http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/home-page-control

Filosofo Home-Page Control is a WordPress plugin that lets you:    * put pages on the same Permalink level (or higher) as the blog’s directory and    * set which page you want to be the “home” page.
Why would I want to do that?

    * Let’s say you wanted to use WordPress as a Content Management System, or CMS. If your website is www.example.com, you might want a page with relatively static content (i.e. not your most recent blog posts) to greet your visitors when they load www.example.com.
    * One way to accomplish this is to add a file named home.php to your theme; automatically, WordPress will open that page as the home page. Instead, this plugin allows you to choose any of your existing pages to be the default homepage, without having to create a home.php file.
    * Something else you might want to do is make a sub-directory of your site, say “blog,” to be the home of your blog entries, while allowing other pages to be on the same level (or higher) as that of the blog directory. For example, in addition to www.example.com/blog, you might want something like www.example.com/about or www.example.com/my_pet_frogs. (Normally, if the blog resides in www.example.com/blog, pages would be under that directory, so that you would have www.example.com/blog/about instead of www.example.com/about.)

QuickDNS (Commandline) – for Analog log analyser

http://www.analogx.com/contents/download/network/qdns.htm

If you've used Analog, the webserver log analyzes tool (no relation to yours truly), then you know it rocks. One of the best features of Analog is it's speed, but it's not as fast as it could be – Enter AnalogX QuickDNS! The only slow spot in Analog is it's DNS lookup, which QuickDNS handles! Simply execute it before you run Analog, and it will do all of the DNS work for it, and it even uses the same config file! At it's default setting it's about 100x faster than Analog (ie, it runs 100 simultaneous queries), so you'll notice a performance increase right off the bat. It also handles all of the DNS work that Analog normally does as well (rechecking valid and invalid links after a certain amount of time). Simple to use, small, and free, so download it now and start loggin'!

Launchy – keystroke application Launcher-emulate vista

http://www.launchy.net/

Vista's new Start menu lets you hit the Windows key, type a few letters until a match to your application of choice is discovered, and then press for a quick launch.

If that sounds easier than digging through the Start menus and submenus and you don't want Vista right now (or you have Vista but want the Classic Start menu), check out Launchy, open-source software from Josh Karlin. Launchy stays out of your way (invisible), until you press – (or other hotkey combination you choose). A small, skinnable command-line window appears, and when you type a few letters, Launchy anticipates your target file and displays it (and other alternatives).

As soon as the file you want appears in the window, just press . Launchy lets you customize the directories searched as well as the file types launched (so you can use it to open pictures or music files, for example, not just applications). All this and it's free!
