Yahoo  Pipes -  interactive data aggregator and manipulator

http://pipes.yahoo.com/

An introduction to Yahoo Pipes – Simplehelp.pdf

Yahoo describes Pipes as “an interactive data aggregator and manipulator that lets you mashup your favorite online data sources”. Alright, but what does that mean to the rest of us? Yahoo Pipes uses an easy-to-understand visual editor that allows you to (among other things) take multiple RSS feeds, combine and filter them, and then output all of that information to one RSS feed.

This tutorial will take you through the steps to filter the content of one RSS feed (Techmeme) so that content you may have already read isn’t included in your Techmeme fee

VirtualDub Portable – popular video capture/processing utility

http://portableapps.com/apps/music_video/virtualdub_portable

VirtualDub Portable is the popular video capture/processing utility packaged as a portable application, so you can take your images with you and do your editing on the go.

VirtualDub Portable is a video capture/processing utility. It lacks the editing power of a general-purpose editor such as Adobe Premiere, but is streamlined for fast linear operations over video. It has batch-processing capabilities for processing large numbers of files and can be extended with third-party video filters. VirtualDub is mainly geared toward processing AVI files, although it can read (not write) MPEG-1 and also handle sets of BMP images.

bcWebCam – read bar codes with webcam

http://www.bcwebcam.de/en/download.htm

bcWebCam allows you to read barcodes with your webcam and use the data wherever you need it. Read barcodes directly from objects, from barcode labels or from paper in the same way super market cash points do it without spending lots of money for a reading device like a laser pistol. The barcode data is copied into the active input field of various applications. Start bcWebCam, place the cursor in your application in the target field and hold the barcode in front of the camera. The barcode will be read automatically and the item number will be copied into the target field. You save the type job and avoid mistakes.

XSubst-visual managing subst drives

http://www.gateway-to-hell.com/

XSubst is a freeware tool for managing subst drives and net drives with a lot of comfort. It can create temporary or permanent subst drives, can create drive icons (shortcuts) to the desktop manually or automatically. With the optional shell context extension (sce) it can integrate the basic functions connect and disconnect into file explorer or professional file managers like total commander.

Another comfortable function is to change the path of a subst or net drive without manual disconnect the drive, XSubst will do this in one step. XSubst shows all available drives (a-z) in a drive list with their corresponding paths and drive types. There are more comfort functions but i think for a first description this is enough.

ShowMyPC – remote PC access

http://showmypc.com/

ShowMyPC combines VNC remote access technology with an open-source SSH forwarding client to provide you with the option to allow other users to view and control your desktop. The remote user needs to download the standalone ShowMyPC application and can access your computer with just a password (no IP address needed). The temporary session password is automatically generated when you start the viewing session and must be provided to the remote user by email, phone or other means. If you have access to your own SSH server, you can use it instead of the one provided.

Pros: Easy to use, one-click connectivity

Cons: Very slow connection, using the provided SSH server.

Drive Folder-Virtual Drives by associating folders

http://www.vasileios.gr/freesoft/drive_folder.htm

Create Virtual Drives by associating folders of your disks with Drive letters. Drive Folder associates folders with Drive letters making them behave as physical Drives, this is very convenient if you use specific folders to store data files, multimedia, downloads etc. Create an appropriate batch file using the three steps Wizard, and run it from the Batch Files Management panel. More than one Drive letter can be associated with the same folder.

Ping Test Easy – automate network ping commnad

http://www.pingeasy.com/pingeasy.htm

BKPR5-VF2B7-PLMKJ

If you're feeling techie, perhaps it's time to give Ping Test Easy a try. This freebie automates use and configuration of the network ping command, which tests whether a particular computer, server, or Web site is connected to the Internet and working. The command also provides other information, such as how long the site took to respond to you and how many packets were lost en route.

Without Ping Test Easy, issuing a ping command involves just going to a command prompt, typing ping, and pressing <Enter>. So why would you need this program? In the first place, it maintains a list of sites that you either have pinged or want to ping.

In addition, it lets you configure ping in many different ways–by changing the amount of data sent via ping, for example, or the ping interval. And if you need a record for some reason, it will save your results to a log file.

Will this software change your life? Certainly not. But it does simplify a monotonous task, and it's free. In my book, that makes it a bargain.

The button "Options…" open the Web-Thumb options (saved folder, size of the application´s Web browser, format of image file name, enable button "Redraw2" (Web pages with XHTML code)).
