FancyZoom-javascript image zooming

http://www.cabel.name/2008/02/fancyzoom-10.html

…so I fought back the charging Guanaco, immediately hopped on my paraglider, and basically caught the first flight out of Chile — but not without dealing with some cantankerous customs inspectors while drinking a cool glass of chicha. Really sorry it took so long! But hey, two years later, it's finally done!
Smooth Javascript Image Zooming For Your Web Pages
This much-requested chunk of Javascript to zoom images inline, originally written for this blog but later rolled out to the Panic website and used for screenshots, is now polished up, bug-fixed, available for you to use on your website!

Designed to view full-size photos and images inline without requiring a separate web page load, FancyZoom's raison d’être (French for "raisin-determination") is providing a smooth, clean, truly Mac-like effect, almost like it's a function of Safari itself. Since I originally wrote this script, there are now a lot of image zoomers to choose from (including a similar effect now on Apple's own site!), such as the popular (and inspiring) Lightbox. So you might be asking: "Cabel, why use FancyZoom?" Well, here's why!

    * Focused on the smoothest, most polished zooming animation possible
    * Automatically scales images from any image link, with no HTML changes
    * Preloads full-size images in the background on link mouseover
    * No resource-heavy Javascript libraries — 100% coded from scratch to zoom
    * Draws a nice drop shadow under the full-size image to offset it from the page
    * Uses Safari 3's "box-shadow" feature to draw the drop shadow natively, no images required
    * Requires only two new lines of code in your HTML
    * Tested and works with Safari, Firefox, IE7, and IE6. (Looks better in modern browsers.)

LightBox JS Web Gallery Generator – create a thumbnail gallery

http://pranas.net/

LightBox JS Web Gallery Generator (formerly Pranas.NET Web Gallery Creator) is a very easy to use tool to create a simple, yet attractive image gallery from your photos. Just specify the input/output folders, the size of the thumbnails and full size image, and the program will do the rest. It will resize images, create the HTML pages – ready for you to use. It also includes an option to make the full-size original images available from the gallery, via a link that is pointing to the file. If you are familiar with CSS style sheet editing, you can further customize the pages in color and appearance, and use custom templates to integrate the gallery output.

jQuery – RAD JavaScript build interactive web applications

http://jquery.com/

jQuery is a new type of JavaScript library.

jQuery UI is a set of themable widgets and interactions, built on top of the jQuery JavaScript Library, that you can use to build highly interactive web applications.

The core of the library revolves around different mouse interactions, namely drag and dropping, sorting, selecting, and resizing.

On top of the core interactions are built a number of reusable widgets, including accordions, date pickers, dialogs, sliders, table sorters, and tabs.

Finally, the library is finished off with a few effects that you can use to liven up your site, specifically magnifier and shadow.

Lightbox – script used to overlay images on the current page

http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/

a simple, unobtrusive script used to overlay images on the current page. It's a snap to setup and works on all modern browsers. Example To make sense of it all, check out these examples. Click on a thumbnail or text link below: left to right: Lokesh, Jess, Brian, and Steph image #1 the handstand incident image #2 w/caption Benefits Lightbox JS is a simple, unobtrusive script used to overlay images on the current page http://www.huddletogether.com/projects/lightbox/ Places images above your current page, not within. This frees you from the constraints of the layout, particularly column widths. Keeps users on the same page. Clicking to view an image and then having to click the back button to return to your site is bad for continuity (and no fun!).

Nice titles – showing a partially-transparent link summary when dragging a link

http://www.kryogenix.org/code/browser/nicetitle/

Nate over at webgraphics talks about a new feature he'd like to see in Safari: that titles on links should be shown in the rather pretty way that Safari currently shows dragged links: The Safari browser showing a partially-transparent link summary when dragging a link That's rather nice, that. Of course, it doesn't need browser support. Try mousing over, or tabbing to, some of the links on this page: you'll see the same effect. It's all done with CSS and a little bit of JavaScript.

Nifty Corners Cube are a solution to get rounded corners without images

http://pro.html.it/niftycube/

Nifty Corners Cube are a solution to get rounded corners without images, and this third version is build by three main components: * A javascript file, named "niftycornerscube.js" * A CSS file, named "niftycorners.css" * The javascript calls specific for the pages Now we're now ready to look at the first example: it's a div with big rounded corners thanks to Nifty Corners. As I said before, the CSS file it's added automatically by javascript. In fact, the only reference to an external file in the example is the following: Regarding the third point, as is the javascript calls needed for the page, the code for the example is the following: In bold I've reported the part of the script that depends on the page, and that is the call for the function Nifty. This function is the core of the whole library, and receives two parameters that are the strength point of the script. Parameters have to be specified between quotes and separated by a comma. The first parameter is for the CSS selector that targets the elements to round, while the second parameter is for options for default cases could be omitted. Let's see them in depth.

TiddlyWiki – portable weblog

A web technology that is, in my opinion, underrated but still going on along on the 'net, is that thing called "wiki". In a nutshell, a wiki is a user-editable website and online collaboration can easily be done because it has been designed to be edited by its readers.

Visual AJAX – Tersus Visual Programming Platform employs AJAX

http://www.tersus.org/about/visual_ajax

The Tersus Visual Programming Platform employs AJAX techniques "under the hood", simplifying the creation of web applications with a rich, responsive user interfaces. Tersus uses a single, visual language for defining user interface, client side behavior and server side processing, eliminating the need to master multiple technologies and tools. The visual model is executed on the server or inside the browser as appropriate, eliminating the need to master different languages (JavaScript , Java) and complex client/server integration techniques. With Tersus you will get two major benefits: 1. You use the same language for client side and server side processes. 2. The development is 100% visual – the application is defined using visual diagrams instead of code. For a simple example, take a look at the Tree4Notes application, which contains a split-pane with a tree display of the notes hierarchy on the left, and the contents of the currently selected note on the right. See how the content of the page is update without a full reload.

Oooo event:Selectors for Prototype

http://borkweb.com/story/oooo-eventselectors-for-prototype event_selectors

My article on the Separation of Layout and Logic touched on a key point of heavy Javascript use in an Ajax rich environment…the need for separation of Javascript code – namely events – from the HTML. Behaviour was my suggested CSS/Javascript event selector framework. Behaviour is a stand-alone event framework. You can use it regardless of whether or not you are using Prototype (or some other Ajax/Javascript library) – which is pretty cool. But…if you are using Prototype there is a lot of code duplication between the two libraries. Luckily, Mir.aculo.us has brought event:Selectors to my attention which is causing me to sing a different tune! Justin Palmer, event:Selector's creator is crediting Behaviour for the idea, but he's has what Behaviour has done a few steps further.

script.aculo.us provided JavaScript libraries are implemented http://script.aculo.us/downloads * Least possible use of additional HTML mark-up * Usage of established standards (like DOM, XHTML and CSS) * Transparent compatibility with all major browsers that feature support for Web 2.0 technology. As of now, following browsers are supported: Firefox 1.0 (and most other Gecko-engine based browsers), Internet Explorer 6 and Safari. Many other browsers work, too. * Complete object-orientation * Small, efficient codebase The scripts you'll find here all make use of the fully object-oriented Prototype JavaScript library, which comes with the Ruby on Rails web application development framework. (But you can use Prototype with any web development tools, even with static HTML pages!)

Behaviour – CSS selectors to specify elements to add javascript events

http://bennolan.com/behaviour/

Behaviour lets you use CSS selectors to specify elements to add javascript events to. This means that instead of writing: After all the work of WASP and others to promote clean markup, valid pages and graceful degradataion via css – it sucks that we're going back to tag soup days by throwing javascript tags into our html. The better way to do javascript is to do it unobtrusively. PPK and Simon Willison have been recommending this approach for ages. And it's definitely the way to go. The only problem is that it's a bit of a pain in the ass. That's why I came up with Behaviour – my solution to unobtrusive javascript behaviours.

Please reference me with a link to plasticshore if you find this useful or inspiring and let me know what you have done with it. Enough said! Download the project as a ziparchive.

My-BIC Easy php + AJAX Controler

http://www.litfuel.net/mybic/index.html

You should only need to change the SERVER_ROOT path and INC_PATH's in the mybic_server.php file. The INC_PATH will be the path your PHP classes will live in. So if your mybic_server.php file is in your root directory but all your php classes are in your "inc" directory then you would set the INC_PATH to: SERVER_ROOT.'inc/' 3 main files included * mybic.js – The main JS file you'll need * mybic_server.php – The PHP Server File that all AJAX requests will be sent to * mybic_json.php – The file that encodes to JSON notation 2 sample files are included: * helloworld.html – A test HTML file * helloworld.php – A PHP class file that matches the helloworld.html file Development Version: svn checkout http://www.litfuel.net/mybic_ajax
